Durendal is supposed to have been forged by Wayland, one of the most famous blacksmiths in ancient chivalry history. According to “The Song of Ro-land”, this mythical sword was given to Charlemagne by an angel. The poem also tells that the handle was imbued with all sorts of mythical objects, such as a tooth of St. Peter and a piece of the raiment of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Legend has it that Durendal was an indestructible sword, and that it was so powerful that it could pass through stone without any problem. Thanks to it, Ro-land was able to confront the Saracens, making them retreat. However, when he wanted to destroy the sword so that it would not be taken, he could not.
Roland then decided to throw it against the stones of a steep cliff. The sword cut into the rock and was stuck there, where no one could take it.
Today you can see the so-called mythical sword if you visit Rocamadour in France.
On the other hand, just as powerful as Durendal, is the mythical Honjo Masamune.
